Thanks for the link to my post on the Alabama polling. I disagree a bit with your analysis of the Alabama race, in that the traditional African-American establishment isn't supporting Artur Davis. They are rallying behind agriculture commissioner Ron Sparks, as they supported Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama, and for the same reasons. The difference is a Davis primary win won't convince them that they are wrong. Their lack of support will keep African-American turnout from approaching 2008 levels and make things extremely challenging for Congressman Davis.

Michael

The jobs numbers in the “innovation sectors” was very enlightening. Innovation is the key to getting out economy growing again. Unfortunately, since 2000 we have passed a number of laws and regulations that are killing innovation in the US. (see www.hallingblog.com) The incredible innovation of the 90s was based on technology start-up companies built on intellectual capital, financial capital, and human capital. All three of the pillars have been under attack since 2000. Our patent laws have been weakened reducing the value of intellectual capital. Sarbanes Oxley has made it impossible to go public reducing financial capital for start-ups and the FASB rules on stock options have made it harder to attract human capital to start-ups. The Decline and Fall of the American Entrepreneur: How Little Known Laws and Regulations are Killing Innovation http://www.amazon.com/Decline-Fall-American-Entrepreneur-Regulations/dp/1439261369/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262124667&sr=8-1, explains these problems in more detail.

I'll agree that there is an awful lot that could still go wrong, but I think the Iraqis will surprise the handwringers and bedwetters in the west yet again and make their new democracy work. Early results seem to show the moderate, anti-sectarian, secular coalitions of Prime Minister Al-Maliki and Ayad Alawi as the two major vote getters. If these results are borne out in the final voting, it will be an unmistakably positive sign that most Iraqis want to turn away from sectarianism and work together for the betterment of the country.

It will also constitute a big fat "F%$# you!" to Iran, who would prefer to see the hard core shiite, religiously-motivated parties in the United Iraqi Alliance as the winners.

Where's the mystery? These Tea Baggers are simply the Republic right-wing base. The Democrats have a base and the Republicans have one two.

Their politics is a mix of "I've Got Mine" seniors enjoying the benefits of Soc. Sec. and Medicare, liberationists when you mention the economy, and follow-the-leader types condoning any invasion of civil liberties when their guy is in office.

In other words, hypocrites writ large.
